Setting Up
Hyperterminal
Ver.01.090501
Communication with the PC’s serial port (or virtual serial
port over USB-Serial converter) may be better viewed on serial emulation
software that will transparently display received ASCII data and likewise be able
to send data using the keyboard. One of such software is the Hyperterminal. The
HyperTerminal is a bundled software that comes with MS Windows OS.
This mini-tutorial will show how to quickly set-up the
Hyperterminal for your MCU projects:
1.
Open
Hyper terminal by going to Start > Programs > Accessories >
Communications > Hyper Terminal on Windows XP. Or simply type “hypertrm” in
Start>Run.
You should see the connection
description window as below. Type the session name of your choice and press OK.
2.
Choose
the Serial port you are using on the “Connect To” window and press OK. If you are using a
serial-to-USB converter cable, check the virtual COM port that the converter
driver will create under device manager.

3.
Configure
the port parameters in the Properties window. Below is the common
configuration. Change according to your application.
Bits per second : 9600
Data bits : 8
Parity : None
Stop bits : 1
Flow control : None

4.
Next,
go to File > Properties

5.
Select
ASCII setup in the settings tab.
6.
Click
on “ ASCII Setup” button and setup as below. Again, this is the common settings,
you may change according to your requirements.

1. Click OK then Connect. The timer on
the main application window will start counting. You have now completed the
setup!
